SP PROJECTS 1965-2005
This video was created in 2005 and shows the most important projects realised during the first four decades of activity (1965-2005).
The successfully implemented dams, hydropower plants and large civil works are evidence of the extraordinary quality of SP's engineering services.

GRAND ETHIOPIAN RENAISSANCE DAM - ETHIOPIA
Among the many important guests attending the inauguration of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) Project on 2 April 2011 was Prime Minister Meles Zenawi and designer Giorgio Pietrangeli.
GERD will be Africa's largest hydroelectric plant with an installed power of 5250 MW and annual energy production of over 15,130 GWh.

BUMBUNA HPP – HOPE FOR SIERRA LEONE'S ECONOMY
This video, created by Voice of America (VOA), illustrates the Bumbuna Project in Sierra Leone.
A new hydroelectric dam is bringing both power and hope to Sierra Leone by supplying regular electricity to the capital, Freetown.
VOA's Scott Stearns visits the newly commissioned plant and sees how it is benefiting the community (Feb. 2010).

GIBE III HPP - ETHIOPIA
The Gibe III hydroelectric project, the “Pride of Ethiopia”, will have an installed capacity of 1870 MW with an annual energy production of 6,400 GWh.
Ethiopia’s energy production will be more than doubled creating thousands of new employment opportunities for local communities.

GIBE III - SPILLWAY – HYDRAULIC MODEL
This brief video shows the hydraulic model of the spillway of the Gibe III dam.
The dam is a gravity structure, about 240 m high, with a central overflow block where the spillway structure is located and a design discharge of about 10,600 m3/s.
The hydraulic model to a scale of 1:60 has allowed optimization of the hydraulic layout of the spillway structure, minimizing the impact of the floods downstream.
The spillway structure and the hydraulic model include:
- 9 radial gates,
- chutes on the downstream slope with ski-jump energy dissipaters,
- the pre–excavated, unlined plunge pool on the river bed.
