Description for High Voltage (Tanzania)

The Sub-Transmission High Voltage Lines and Distribution Substations for Rural Electrification Project, in the United Republic of Tanzania, is deemed of strategic importance in the framework of rural electrification programs, especially through transmission grid extension.

The project assignment includes:

- the overall feasibility of the proposed extension of high voltages lines of 220 kV, 132 kV and installation of 220/132/33kV distribution substations in rural areas in Mainland Tanzania where the national grid has been/will be extended
- mapping of existing and planned renewable energy projects and their integration in the proposed HV grid extension
- conceptual design and bidding documents in accordance with the European Commission Practical Guidelines

Rural Energy Agency (REA) and Tanzania Electricity Supply Company Ltd (TANESCO) are the beneficiaries of this project funded by the European Development Fund (EDF) through the National Authorizing Officer in Tanzania.

  • - Distribution transformers ( # 8 x 20 MVA, # 26 x 15 MVA, # 2 x 10MVA, # 14 x 5 MVA )
  • 132/33kV Substations ( # 18 ) :
  • - Distribution transformers ( # 22 x 15 MVA, # 11 x 5 MVA )
