The Montegrande Multipurpose Project is a major complex of hydraulic works dedicated to the development of southwestern Dominican Republic. The Project serves multiple purposes, including flood control, municipal water supply, irrigated agriculture, hydropower generation, alongside secondary reservoir uses such as fisheries and ecotourism. The project includes all the hydraulic works (irrigation, water supply, hydropower, flood control works) downstream of the multipurpose Montegrande dam under construction. SP has been responsible for the design of the hydropower plant located at dam toe. The project includes the upgrade and expansion of an irrigation network (canals, pipelines, weir, ponds) serving the banks of the Yaque river from Tamayo to Neyba Valley (on the right bank) and Habanero y Cabral (on the left bank). As part of this assignment, SP has also designed the upgrade and expansion of the municipal water supply serving the south-western regions of Barahona – Bahoruco – Independencia, along with the flood mitigation works.
